The Best Summer Movies For Your Watchlist
For as long as I can remember, my aunt has taken my sisters and I to see any upcoming we wanted. I relished the feeling of relaxing in the movie theatre and feeling so connected to the characters. Needless to say, I love movies. So without further ado, here are some of my most favorite summer movies. (In no order).
1. The Parent Trap (1996)
Of course, I had to start off strong with one of the most iconic movies. This movie will forever be one of my favorites. As someone who sadly never went to sleep away camp, I loved how I could experience it through this movie.
2. The Sandlot
Alright, this movie is another one of my all time favorites. I’m a baseball fanatic, and this movie just is nonstop baseball with a whole lot of summer fun.
3. The Goonies
This super funny and clever treasure hunt movie from the 80s has so much character! It’s a great pick for a backyard movie night under the stars. (Side note: Finding Ohana on Netflix is very similar and equally good!)
4. The Notebook
The movie that stole everyone’s hearts is an incredibly romantic pick for your watchlist. Ryan Gosling and Rachel McAdams have amazing chemistry that you HAVE to see for yourself.
5. It Takes Two
At number five, we have another crowd pleaser with Hollywood’s favorite pair of twins: Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen. With their charm and spunk in a summery, romantic movie, this is a must watch.
6. Lilo and Stitch
I mean, does this even need an explanation? This adorable Disney movie with a girl and her dog (or rather, girl and her alien) vibe is emotional, feel-good summer fun.
7. The Last Song
Another great Nicholas Sparks movie adaptation that pulls at the heartstrings. In the movie where Liam Hemsworth and Miley Cyrus met, their chemistry with the summery vibe is so great! Cyrus plays the main lead with an emotional maturity that's perfect for a movie like this.
8. Mamma Mía
This is a perfect summer musical movie! Set in Greece, the movie follows an engaged girl and her mother navigate her wedding. Between the songs, an impeccable cast (hello, Meryl Streep!) and an incredible setting, who wouldn't love to vacation here?
9. E.T.
E.T. is a great summer movie because it’s all about friendship and adventure, which just feels perfect for summer. Plus, the scenes with the bikes and sunsets totally give off that carefree summer vibe.
10. High School Musical 2
Ok, y'all know I had to end this list strong. And this movie is probably as summery as they get! It’s my go to as soon as school lets out. And who doesn’t love a cheesy Disney Channel movie every now and then, and right?
Summer movies have a special way of making us feel carefree, nostalgic, and full of adventure. Whether it’s a heartwarming classic, a fun-filled musical, or a feel-good romance, these movies are perfect for kicking back and enjoying the summer vibes. So grab some popcorn, gather your friends or family, and let these movies transport you to sun-soaked adventures and unforgettable memories!
