Staying Sane During Finals Season: Small Steps, Strong Finish
Let’s be real—finals season creeps up fast, and suddenly everything feels a lot. Between trying to focus, remembering what you even learned this semester, and not doom scrolling, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed. But here’s the good news: you don’t need to have it all together to make it through! With a few small shifts and some steady habits, you can stay sane, stay focused, and come out the other side feeling proud (and not totally burnt out).
Turn off your phone and put it in a different room! For me, if I can't see my phone, I'm not tempted to check it! Therefore, I won't get distracted while studying.
I love making plans. One way I make plans during finals season is by creating study schedule! This helps me stay organized and not lose track of everything I have to do. I take eight classes, so that's a lot of final exams—gotta stay organized!
Get plenty of sleep the night before exam day. Sleep improves memory. It's during sleep when your brain commits information to long-term memory, so getting quality rest can actually improve your retention and recall of what you've learned. Please, don't pull an all nighter. You need sleep!
Learning by teaching is a method that really works! If you work with a study buddy and explain concepts to each other, you're re-learning the material all over again. It's a great way to reinforce what you've learned and help someone in the meantime!
